Ram’s New eTorque Engine Lands on Ward’s 10 Best List

By Justin Cupler | January 16th, 2019

When the 2019 Ram 1500 debuted with its all-new look, it also rolled out a new base engine. This 3.6-liter V-6 engine may share the same displacement as the previous base Ram 1500’s powerplant, but there was one big change: A new mild-hybrid system. And this new engine just landed itself a sport on Ward’s 10 Best Engines list.

This new 3.6-liter V-6 boasts 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, giving it the same output as the 2018 model, but the new 48-volt hybrid system allows it to hit these numbers more efficiently. The big boost from this system is the 90 pound-feet it delivers in stop-and-go driving.

With this engine, the 2019 Ram 1500 delivers up to 20 mpg city, 25 highway, and 22 combined with rear-wheel drive. This is an improvement of 3 mpg city and 2 mpg combined.

With rear-wheel drive, the 2019 Ram 1500 with the 3.6-liter eTorque engine delivers up to 19 mpg city, 24 highway, and 21 combined. These numbers translate to improvements of 3 mpg city, 1 mpg highway, and 2 mpg combined.
