2020 Chrysler Pacifica Vs. 2020 Chrysler Voyager

When Chrysler resurrected the Pacifica nameplate in 2017 and slapped it on a stylish minivan, the automaker once again revolutionized the segment it reinvented in the 1980s. This new Pacifica boasted loads of luxury in its higher trims and even a hybrid variant with 32 miles of EV range. In 2020 Chrysler revived another long-dead name, the Voyager, and fixed it to the two lowest Pacifica trim levels, creating a new, value-oriented model for our Jacksonville area shoppers.

Which of these stylish Chrysler minivans is best for your family? Continue reading to find out.

Exterior

On the outside, the Chrysler Pacifica and Voyager are virtually the same vehicles. In fact, the Voyager is little more than a renamed version of the two lowest Pacifica trim levels from a year ago. There are, however, distinct differences, especially when comparing the Pacifica to the base Voyager L, as the Voyager L has a standard black grille and steel wheels with hubcaps, while the base Pacifica Touring has 17-inch aluminum wheels and a chrome grille surround. The Voyager also has a wide lower grille in flat black instead of the Pacifica’s signature chrome-trimmed lower grille.

Because they are mostly the same vehicle, the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica and 2020 Chrysler Voyager are precisely the same size. The only significant difference is the Pacifica Hybrid is significantly heavier than the Voyager due to its battery pack and EV drivetrain.

Measurement Chrysler Pacifica Chrysler Voyager Difference
Length 203.8 inches 203.8 inches
Width 79.6 inches 79.6 inches

Ground Clearance 5.1 inches 5.1 inches
Curb weight 4,330 to 4,987 (hybrid) pounds 4,330 pounds +0 to +657 pounds

Advantage: 2020 Chrysler Voyager

  •       Lighter than the Pacifica Hybrid
  •       Cheaper with the same great looks

Advantage:

  •       Standard aluminum wheels
  •       More luxury in the higher trims

Interior

Like the exterior, the bulk of the Chrysler Voyager and Chrysler Pacifica’s interiors are identical, specifically their dashboards. When you move back to the seating area, things change up a bit, as the Voyager comes standard with a second-row bench seat, while the Pacifica boasts more passenger-friendly captain’s chairs. In the third row, the Pacifica boasts an extra 15 inches of hip room and 1.8 inches of shoulder room.

While the Voyager and Pacifica vary only slightly visually, and they are surprisingly similar in standard interior features too. They both come standard with a six-speaker AM/FM audio system, a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and automatic rear braking.

The Pacifica separates itself from the Voyager with standard tri-zone automatic climate control, front and rear interior LED lights, interior door handle LED lights, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and remote ignition. The Pacifica also adds retractable second-row sunshades, steering-wheel-mounted controls, a universal garage door opener, an eight-way power driver’s seat with four-way power lumbar, and second-row Stow ‘n Go bucket seats.

Buyers seeking a near-luxury minivan will not find this in the Voyager. They must upgrade to the Pacifica and move in to its Limited trim, which includes Nappa leather upholstery, a luxury steering wheel, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, a 13-speaker audio system, and more.

Performance

Under their respective hoods, the non-hybrid Pacifica and Voyager are mechanically identical. They boast a 3.6-liter V-6 engine with 287 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. This powertrain sprints them to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds and allows them to tow up to 3,600 pounds.

The 2020 Pacifica Hybrid is the outlier with its 3.6-liter V-6 engine and two electric motors that combine for 260 horsepower. With the added low-end torque from the electric motors, the Pacifica Hybrid is slightly quicker at 7.4 seconds to 60 mph. This model will also travel up to 32 miles on electricity alone for an 82 mpg-e rating. Its hybrid rating comes in at 30 mpg combined.
